Reviving a tired Bee with sugar and water

While hopping around the garden today I saw a lovely looking Bee drop out of the sky and land right in front of me.  Upon closer examination it became obvious that the Bee was exhausted, he didn’t move for around five minutes and needed some help.

A spoonful of sugar solution for the exhausted Bee

I’m a pretty helpful rabbit so I took a look at the RSPB website to see if they had any ideas on how this Bee could be revived.  I made a simple solution of water and sugar and mixed it together and presented it to the tired bee on top of a leaf.

As soon as the bee touched the water and sugar solution it popped it’s proboscis out and sat for a long while drinking it up.  It was a hot day today and I can understand why it was so thirsty.

After about 20 minutes the Bee was looking much more lively and began to move around at clean itself.  It was covered in pollen when it had first landed.

Shortly after he gave his wings a little test and then took flight.  After taking off he did a couple of fly-bys (I think I heard him shout Thank-you, but my ears were facing the wrong way at the time, so I can’t be sure) and then went high over the house.

The exhausted Bee takes flight!

Why revive a Tired Bee?

Well, because Bees are in trouble and need our help at the moment! In recent years their numbers have fallen dramatically due to a number of factors.  If you would like to know more about this then you should read the information on the Friends of the Earth website:

About the Bee-Cause

I hope that Bee has a bit more life in him yet, he had a sweet little character.  That is my good deed for the day, I’m off to eat some hay!
